Hi All,

I am new to web design and am about to ask the easiest question (maybe)...

When designing your web page in photoshop what dimensions should you design to???

I know it all depends on who you intend to be viewing your site and screen sizes, resolution etc...

So to make it easier when you are desigining a new site what dimensions do YOU use???

Cheers,

Andrew

800 * 600... minus offsets. <-- me doing client work, where someone with that resolution actually might visit the site.

770 x 590 .. For most websites. I go 1000 x 600 for my personal stuff.

Thanks Paavo & sidez...

I guess by Sidez saying 770 x 590 means the same as Paavo saying 800 x 600 minus offsets.

Doesn't give you much room to play with does it. I guess though if you stick to 770 width then you can make it as long as you want.

Cheers,

Andrew

If you want it to fit on a mac and be cross browser compatible then (if memory serves me right) 744 x 410 is the minimum reccomended, this supposes the use of a scrollbar.

One other point of note, make sure that you keep all your navigation and points of interest 'above the fold' (above the 410 pixels), obviously it is now considered ok to design below.

Hi Hermet,

Good point about the navigation menu. I think the hardest thing so far in web design is trying to keep your page compatibale for everyone...

Cheers,

Andrew
