I dont agree with protecting the source, but in fairness it would prevent a hundred rips of your source from people who dont know how to bypass the security. Generally only kiddies or people with no knowledge will try and steal code, and it is just these type of people who will be put off by simple source protection.

If someone wants your source code badly enough they will get it, but why make it easy for them?

...but then again, by "securing" your HTML you will look like a fool for the "rest of us" who don't give a crap and won't be childish enough to rip it.

Don't get me wrong, you DO have a very good point, just giving another perspective to this silly thing. :D

lol - I have to play devils advocate here as I dont agree with the protection of source code, but why would I "look a fool"?. I too dont care about anybody reading my source as has been pointed out, it's open source, but I question our need to bemoan the fact that people DO protect their own work.

I also recognise the fact that as an open source format, HTML will never be the sole preserve of any one person and that as a by-product nothing per se will be original. However 'artists' have been copyrighting work for a long time now, never more so than with the advent of new media technologies. What is the difference between marking a 'wallpaper' as your own, or marking an HTML page as your own, after all dont most webpages contain a "please dont rip me off, this is copyright blah blah" messages? Do you think the copyright is meant to attain to the graphics only?

As I say though, whilst I am not for the protection of source code, I see the need for some to protect what is theirs. Often we think of 'rips' as graphics and/or HTML, but the 'rip' of HTML is enough to warrant some consternation in the authors of such.

Make no mistake though the deliberate taking of someones source code is no less annoying or important than the taking of someones logo.

Oh and feel free to rip any code you like off me, as I couldnt code my way outta a wet paper bag. As I say just playing devils advocate
