I know that in photoshop 6.0, there is the save for web option that allows you to preserve transperency for web images. I need to know how do you preserve transperency for images that are going to be printed by traditional means (i.e. magazines)?

Terrance, If you just want to give a printer or designer (assuming they can take a file in PSD format) a single layer file of an image with a transparent background, create your transparency and image on a single layer and trash the background layer. Save it and anyone else who opens it in Photoshop will have the transparency. If you're talking about using a Photoshop image in a page layout program like QuarkXPress, create a selction surrounding the part of the image you want to be visible and save the selection as an Alpha Channel or create a Path and give it a name. Then save your image as a TIFF. Once you open it in Quark, choose Item: Clipping (to see transparency) or Runaround (for wrapped text) and select Alpha Channel or Embedded Path as the Type. |
