How do I specify a transparency color in a gif? In Pshop 5 I would convert the image to index and then do Export/Gif/and select the transparent color.

Fitz, I never used this method personally, but in the early days of web design I had an old program that would make a color you specified become transparent in a GIF. What you have to do in Photoshop 6.0 is create your image on a layer with transparency. Turn off the background layer and Save For Web. Select GIF and check Transparency. Leave the Matte color as None if you want hard edged transparency. But if you have soft edges on your image or an effect such as a drop shadow, you can specify a matte color (whatever the html background color will be.) Now Photoshop will use that color near the edge of your shape to blend into transparency. |
