If you want to remove points and physically bond different objects/paths together to form one combined object, open the pathfinder window and select the "merge" function.

You will probably have that problem with all vector things you try. Because closed paths in Illustrator are considered seperate "objects". You can't keep closed paths (which is then considered an object) on the same "layer" as another one. Illustrator always consider them seperate, and will make subdirectories for each one. The best you can do is group or merge them. Once you import it into your 3D program, you will most likely have to deal with that issue in there. Perhaps your 3D prog can merge them together, but if not, looks like thats how you'll have to work with it. |
