flash logic question

i am an opinionated designer but certainly not the worlds best programmer...

i have 3 variables ( x,y,z ) and 1 more ( w ). i want w to display some text based on the combinations of text in x and y or x, y , and z. the user can pick certain words for each field and i want to have a list of combinations so if the user gets a set that matches one on the list, some text would appear in w .
hope that makes sense.

any effecient ways to do this? (i'm using flash 5)
