I know this is a vague question and could fall under many other categories on this board, but I was wondering what some of the more popular webpage sizes are.

I've seen ones set to 800x600 which is nice on most monitors, but not for those using 15" monitors. Does size really matter that much?

I noticed a few sites that were 700x300, 600x600, etc.

I suppose adding your own style is a given, but I wanted to know what you other creative geniuses had to say on the matter.

I'm thinking I want to go in the 600x800 look.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well I'm currently working on making a choice of low-bandwith, high-bandwith, 800x600, 1024x768.........

If it's a tough choice, and you like it bigger, make 2 sizes, make a smaller one for those poor saps on 56k.........

The size of your site usually has more to do with screen resolutions than download time. I usually make all of mine 778 pixels wide, and try to fit all of the important stuff into about 500 vertical. That way people with 800x600 resolutions don't have to scroll horizontally to see the whole page, or up and down to see anything important. Put something catchy at the top to get their attention. Or put some important news up there. I use 778 because you have to allow for the scrollbar to take up a little extra room. Very few people use 640x480 anymore, so I go with the 800x600 as a general rule. Just try not to make people scroll horizontally. It's really annoying.

You can always make a site that fits on any resolution by using percentages for width, but you might get big blank spaces in your design.

I used to do that but now i mostly make designs for 800x600.

I generally go with 600x800, it works on "most" every users machine, and even people with big moniters dont usually surf with a FULL screen browser window do they?
I know I dont.
I just dont see a need for 1024x768 or bigger..(in most cases)
