I just got the prog and I am so lost in it.
1. I have a image I would like to make a background?
2. Also, if I want a certain animation I do to repeat (some lines going up and down infinite), while my movie plays. I would like that as the background. I have seen some movies where people have word s moving infinite in the background like the ps2 site on here, please help me thanks to who takes the time to explain 4 me.

Have you done the tutorials in the help yet? That's the best place to start. To have a bg image you'll need to import an image, preferably a PNG

Yeah, like Fig said....

but not only the tutorials in the help menu....ALSO read all of the help files....they are set up in html like a website and open in your browser. Macromedia does a great job of making their help files actually "helpfull"

Lines and stuff moving all the time in the background while the rest of the movie goes about its business are done with "movie clips"

Try your local store (Best Buy, computer store, etc), or any choice of online stores.

Or, you can buy it direct from Macromedia.

Just buy the Flash 5 For Dummies book or somethin', I know Dummies books may seem idiotic, but I have the Flash 5 For Dummies book, and it's helping a lot.

Director is so darn hard to use though. i bought the Flash Bible, along with Dreamweaver 3 Bible and i hardly used either. I think tutorials are really the only way to learn. Got to www.flashkit.com Probably best Flash tuts on the web.

Hmm...for me it was the opposite.

The tutorials that I read were POORLY written, and I couldn't gain anything out of it.

But when I bought Flash 5 For Dummies, I was rockin'. I learned so much in just a few minutes of reading some of the pages.

But in some cases, tutorials are better than the book :D

FlashKit's tutorials IMO vary GREATLY in quality, some are really good and some are barely intelligible. For learning Flash the Foundation Flash 5 book is outstanding.
