Newbie to Fruity Loops :(

Ok, I just began using Fruity Loops and I have no idea what i'm doing. I just want to know the basics really. What I really had in mind though is how to add my own MP3 song so I can mix it up a bit.
I know I did it once and I was able to open up a Piano Roll and Change it up (although I admit I had no idea what I was doing.):p
I also tried converting my MP3 to a WAV file but when I import it with Beat to Slice the playback is nothing but static. Besides that, the files for a 128kb song at average length came out to around 80mb as a WAV. So if anyone can please help me out, give me a few tips on what i'm doing, i'd be grateful.
