2 Illustrator questions

I have been trying to figure out Illustrator the past few days and I have 2 questions:

1) When I set I color I want to draw with and choose a brush it always draws a black line and the color. How do I get it so I just draw the color?

2) Whenever I draw a curved line, whatever color I have in the color pallette gets filled in inside the curve. How do I not have a color do that?

Totally not being rude here, but those are 100% "Read the manual questions." It's really beyond basic what you are asking.

Turn the stroke off to not have the black line. Turn off the fill colour to just have a stroke.
