Yea, Alot of people use 800x600. Maybe you should make an 800x600 layout and a 1024x768 layout and then make an entrance screen and have people choose. Alot people also use 1024x768.

Well, the real challenge (since it's scaleable) would be to create a Flash movie that would scale to all screen dimensions. But as p.c. said, if you go with 800x600, it will largely be viewable by all.

SCREEN RESOLUTION
44% 800x600
42% 1024x768
04% 1280x1024
03% 1152x864
02% 640x480
<1% 1600x1200

Stats derived from:

370.000.000 hits at
+500.000 different sites
during May, 2003

Old stats, but the change probably isn't that noticeable to now.

Actually, use javascript to detect the resolution and redirect if you must go this way. Entrance screens are annoying.
