What server will you run this batch converter on? Is it Unix-based or Windows-based?

If hes on Unix, he'd probably have an easier time using a *nix based program, like Gimp.

You could also use ImageMagick or the GD library. Both have command line interfaces and run on Unix-based systems. Search google for more info.
