Almost useless? PLE is excellent, it's the entire program with some crappy watermarks on it..oh no!

hehe. I know. But I wanted to use the images for something. I realise its workable and all, but its got this big ugly "not for money use" or whatever written all over it.

i missed the warez post, but we're sitting here talking about free available software for learning and someone asks about wares? *big sigh*

anyways, marble, you may be better off with some freeware programs. wings3d is a killer little modeler and there's a few plug-ins available that you can render out from it as well. here's an image i've got in progress, not smoothed yet but its getting there.

cyb, i may be moving to the xsi experience over maya ple. the watermark is a lot less obtrusive, you've got mental ray and final gathering, and for me it seems to be a bit smoother transition from lightwave. i also want to do character work and from what i've heard xsi is it for animation. i'll keep you updated on what i'm up to.

good luck! I downloaded Mental Ray from aliaswavefront a couple of weeks ago, very nice stuff! XSI is hitting into the market now...it's being used in lots of films these days. I'll most likely be using Softimage in college in England...if i get in! They still haven't interviewed me :(

K before anyone breaks my fingers, I was snooping around on the net and found that Blender is back up and running under Open source developement. So I thought I would just download that and start learning the basics there. At least that would give me somewhere to start and not worry about cost right now.

Cinema 4D R8 is the brand new Cinema 4D out on the market. It has succeeded XL 7.

marble, caligari just released an older version of truespace for free, its on the cd for 3dworld magazine. not the greatest program in the world, but for just rendering out stuff you've made it might be a good solution.
