Motion Tween and Ani Gif??

I've been trying to create a motion tween with an animated gif. It doesn't work. Flash always makes the gif appear in 2 seperate frames. I am almost a complete newbie in flash so this is hurting my head. Is there anyway to animate something, while it's in a motion tween? Or is it just not possible.

Example: I'm trying to make a Link (from legend of zelda) walk across the screen (motion tween), with his legs moving back and forth ( I imported an animated Gif).

just taking the individual images out of the gif... put them in one folder and if they are name 1,2,4 etc... import the first one and flash will ask if they are part of a sequence and do you want to import them all... say yes!
