font making?

i wanted to know if it was possible to make a font by scanning a page from a mag or news paper, use the magic wand to select each letter frm that page till u get all the letters in the ABC's, and make them into a font that you can use to type with , reason im asking this question is that its hard to know what type of fonts are used in print , etc, etc ,etc so i wanted to kno if this can be done thanks.

from what i understand w/ font creating software ,such as fontographer, you can pretty much use any image for that particular letter. Unfortunately it is very tedious being you have to do a single letter @ a time.

Making a font in a font program is basically the same as working in a vector illustration program.

But newspaper fonts are usually pre existing fonts like Times New Roman or Courier. Why try to reproduce what probably came with your computer preinstalled?

The font hes looking for is probly located on I.D.'s
