Any ideas how to make a glowing orb? I need to make it pulsate so would I just adjust the glow factor for each frame?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

yup, dupe the layer a few times and add the outerglow effect at different values for the different frames to give it that pulsating look when animating.... sounds like you have it under control
