Background Texture???

Hello, hoe do I make the commom silky shadow background people use on sites and wallpapers. Heres and example:

it´s just a wide selection, feathered, and filled with white..
..then just made selections with the lassoTool, and feathered again, and deleted.

also, you can use a soft brush to dfine the area's, use the selsction tool with a high feather and then use a gaus blur.

There are may techniques for achieving that effect.
