pen selections with strokes

Sorry for this noobie question, but im trying to add a stroke onto a selection i made by using the pen tool. I was trying to draw an object w/ the pen and then add a stroke. Any help would be appreciated.

Right click>stroke path

Or simply keep the path selected, choose a brush/eraser/airbrush/smudgetool etc. from the toolbox and choose a brush size and color. Then hit Enter on the keyboard and the path has a stroke
