How is this technique done?

i too had trouble locating the preserve transparency on photoshop 6 so i jsut ticked the little lock in the layer tab and it worked.

Thanks to everyone who responded with their views on the technique. While i still can't reproduce it exactly i guess art is so variable sometimes that exact replication of a technique is not always possible.

i went ot that site and the first picture is shown. how do you make that? he said airbrushing, but I, being the newbie that i am, have no idea on what that means. (please do not say, use the airbrush tool, cus i know that but what exactly do you do?)
