I am trying to figure out how to take a vertical photo and merge it into a black horizontal background in Photoshop CS4. I have to upload a vertical photo to a website that will stretch the photo to be horizontal if I don't do something like this. Any advice? Thanks!

hi,
I don't have cs4.. but in cs 4 there is something called content aware scalling... it really neat.... Ithink it might work for your project.....
here a tutorial on it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=019mu8FTy6M&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwebdesignledger%2Ecom%2Ftutorials%2F13%2Dphotoshop%2Dcs4%2Dvideo%2Dtutorials%2Dfor%2Dlearning%2Dnew%2Dfeatures&feature=player_embedded

although it great..... and what adobe has done with it.... the ground breaking program call liquid resize.... was really fantastic... maybe in adobe next version... they make that section more like the liqid resize ..

hi,
your quite welcome...
yes it is and when you think about it the photoshop version... of it.. is a poor relative of the program liquide resize!!
this video shows you about the technology and what it can fully does!! and I believe there using the liquid resize program for the demo.. it seems like the liguide resize is so much more cpable than the PS cs4 feature...
here the video
http://www.seamcarving.com/

also there a couple of online sites that uses some of the features of contentware/seam carving ......
which may be of interestest.....
http://rsizr.com/
http://fotoflexer.com/ on this it listed under geek>smart resize but i consider there's on the poor side..

there even currently a project working a version that works with video clips.. smiling.. waiting for that one..

a little background.... the 2 guys who developed the technology and created the liquide resize program also.... and made it free for awhile.. but they were bought out by onone...... and since then the liquide resize (free version) has not been avail... grrr.... also oneof the guys who created the technology ended up being hired by adobe and that why conten aware is in the ps cs4!! smiling...
