Need some help!

Hey guys.

I'm trying to select a graphic so I can select Select > Modify > Contract.

However, when I click the graphic/layer, and click the "Select" button on the top menu, the "Modify" drop-down menu is glazed gray, and it won't allow me to select it. I'm really confused and not sure what to do.

now you mentioned selecting a layer but have you selected a object? you need t select a object on a layer before you can go to select>modify>contract...

at least that the way my cs1 works...
