help with channels & layers

in my PSD document, I can't use the brush (or make any adjustments) on any layers even a new layer. The layers in side layers palette, keeps turning light gray, and not the dark color that means it is active. But when I click on channels, there is and RGB layer, Red, Green & Blue Layers, and all of those layers are active... I get it to go back to a layer active, and when I make an adjustment, it switches back to the channels again.

I'm pretty sure that because these channels are active and even there, I can't make any adjustments to my PSD. Even to drag layers around, it switches to the channels and drags the color of the entire layer around.

Not sure how the color things got in my channels, but I think it's my problem. Can anyone PLEASE help???? Thanks so much!!!

Could you post a screen shot of the layer palet, RGB palet and the Image color settings?:eek:
