is there a tool in adobe photoshop or imageready.

In imageready pull out some guidelines like you want the slices to be.
Then under the Slice menu select "make slices from guides"
the you can go in and delete unneeded slices.
then set up your optimization
now under the file menu "save optimized as" and away you go
