anyone knows how to get photoshop to properly edit text written in languages other than english?
I use windows ALT-SHIFT to change language to greek and although I've selected a font which has the appropriate characters whatever I write comes out to be times new roman. The problem happens only whlie typing. It seems as if photoshop chooses Times New Roman automatically for some reason. When I write the text and then change the font to the greek one it appears ok but its impossible to edit text when you can't see what you are typing.
Any ideas? Or anyone knows where I can get greek fonts that map directly to english character set in order to avoid this problem?

On my 2k box the Symbol font seems to be greek letters. Ismini Greek if this site is correct. http://babel.uoregon.edu/yamada/fonts/greek.html
This site has mostly Mac greek fonts. I think ps 5.5 requires Type 1, TrueType or CID fonts. I would venture a guess that you tried using a bitmapped font. I'm not a font expert so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

oh.. just to let you know
the problem didnt exist in 5.5 but appeared in 6.0
also the fonts I used were truetype for sure, I got the from a greek font cd.

The problem with symbol font is that it doesn't have "accented" characters.

What puzzles me is that while I can properly write in other languages in Word, Notepad and most programs even with the built-in Arial and Times fonts I cannot do it in photoshop.

Since I've never used any foreign language fonts for anything except as decorative objects, I can't answer.

I would suggest going to The Adobe User-to-User Forums, sign up, choose the appropriate forum and ask there. Oftentimes there are engineers who hang out to answer questions, and you're way more likely to get a quick answer there for this type of question.

Plus, it's a great resource for all kinds of info regarding Adobe products...I check in at least once a day.
