I've tried everyway I know to save a background as transparent, but every time I save it the transparency doesn't stay transparent.

For instance, if I save it as a GIF it will look transparent when saved, but when opened in any other program besides Photoshop, the background will be white. When saved as a PNG or TIFF the background won't even look transparent. Is it the combination of some of the colors used when making the image?

Any advice is welcome.

You'll need to do it like zyconium said, go to FILE>SAVE FOR WEB and when the window pops up, make sure you have "transperancy" checked and be sure that the field that says "matte" is set to "none" in the drop down menu. Hope this helps man.

Cheers!

Aldwych, glad to hear you got things worked out. Sometimes you do need matte, when your placing that .gif against a colored background. For instance if you have a blue background, you can add the "matte" and choose "other" and select the hue of blue you're using. This will be somewhat of a halo effect around your text and you can just drop it in to the blue background seamlessly.

Of course I only recommend this for text, pictures are normally in .jpg format unless incorporated into a .gif image.

Cheers!
