Can somebody show me how this border effect is done? I've been trying to figure out cause I'm seeing this effect a lot lately. Thanks!

Its just the brush tool (w/ custom brushes...which can be downloaded off the net). Then either the image is just masked/erased with the brushes or the border is painted over with white. Either way its the same result...the technique used just depends on how editable you want the final image to be.

Manace,

You're thread topic is "Faded Borders" are you looking for faded borders or "grunge" type borders? Just wondering. If it's the grunge borders you can just Google "Photoshop grunge brushes" and I'm sure some will come up.

If it's the faded border, depending on what type of fade you want, there are several ways of doing it. Like the picture you posted, it has faded borders that are grunge style, but look like they're in the background.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to "paint" (on a separate layer) with a grunge brush, in white, and then change your layer setting to "overlay" or "soft light" and see which one suites your need.

If you want a fade like a gradient fade, you might want to use a large brush or use the "feater" effect and set your desired settings. Have fun experimenting.

Cheers!
