I have this picture of my sisters dog. The sun is behind her so the picture is a very good picture, generally bright, but you can see her shadow to the left of the dog!

I would think it would be pretty hard to take the shadow out. It's not a simple adjusting of the levels. I would think it requires some sort of advanced technique. Using the magic wand tool, and a little bit of manual selecting, I can select the whole shadow. But is it possible to get it to look like the rest of the picture, with out looking fake? This is on grass, but the shadow falls on both the grass AND some flowers. Any help would be appreciated! :D

Use the Clone Stamp. The grass part should be a piece of cake. The flowers, depending on how dense and how visible each one is, may require a bit more work but still shouldn't be difficult.

Use the clone stamp to clone grass from nearby sunlit grass areas to the shadowed grass area. For the flower you may have to cut 'n paste individual flowers into the shadowed area and clone the dirt, or if you're lucky you can just clone all the flowers too.

Check out the help for how to use the clone tool if you're unfamiliar with it. It's pretty easy to use.

Yeah that was my first obvious solution. But I wanted to do it without serious editing or altering of the photo. But I did try and it worked well. My friend said it looked fine. But then I showed him the origional and he was like "oh I noticed the same branch in there 5 times" and he circled it for me in paint and sent it back lol. It probably takes more detailed work to get it right and looking okay.

The trick to cloning is to pick your area to clone from, go paint a stroke or a dab of it on your target area, then go back and pick a slightly different area to clone from. IOW constantly keep changing up where you are cloning from. This will help keep the target area from looking like it is just a patch that was cut 'n pasted.

Of course there are many other tricks to cloning as well, but that's one of the more basic techniques that will usually work.
