I am trying to make a box that is hollow, like just an outline how can I contract it to make it look like just an out line of a box?

make a selection....

fill it

>SELECT>MODIFY>CONTRACT (how every many pixels wide you want the outline)

hit delete

just try to make a selection around the image and EDIT > STROKE - that will make it look like u want - i hope i am thinking the same way you do.
