i can't get this to work

for some reason i got on photoshop today and was making an image... so i use text and try to change the color AND IT CHANGES GREY!!!! When I go to change the color and there is the little box and the big box... wel i change the color by draging the thing in the big box... but only top of the little box changes.. the bottom stays grey.... I DONT GET IT!!! :D

Are you sure you're working in RGB mode? :confused:

you probably are in grayscale
