I've been working on this project off and on for about 5 months at least now. But I'm getting pressure to release it since Clay County (http://www.co.clay.ia.us) had a big event about theirs (which really sucks by the way). So for the last week I've been digging into this thing really hard.

Basically all that is left is to add a lot of content to it. This here is basically just the shell with some content. I still have a little back-end programming to do, which I suck at, so that'll probably take the longest.

I need to know what does and what doesn't work.
Where fonts are messed up.
Where link colors are messed up.
Where graphics are broken.
What should be changed (on a small scale...too late for the big stuff)

Please note everything that you see, don't leave it out for any reason. This thing has got to be perfect.

Here she is:

Here is their current:

Thanks guys and gals,
Matt

Looks pretty nice there man:

well i checked all your links for you :D
and...
I dont knot who does what for the services section so i dont know if they are linked to the right peeps. I couldnt find any dead links or messed up fonts. Seems pretty good to me, just gotta add the rest of the content. I would have thought for departments thign you would have like just a list instead of like every person on a different page like you have, or just let them open in frames.

I think you should add padding around "Government" and the other topics under resources. Basically every table header actually. About 5 pixels should do. It'll give those headers some breathing room.

I also think you should either make the "Fill out the Form" on contact page an image button that is much more attention grabbing, or include it on the first contact page without a link.

You could also have a small icon next to each address on the contact page with a link to Mapquest with the address automatically entered in where they can enter their address and get directions.

Are you going to fix the font under "Department Links"? It's bigger size; looks bad.

It's kind of late now, but I personally think search boxes should always be visible, not under another link to click on. So I would have put it in the top bar thing on the right where that blank space is. not under a link on the nav. but that's ok. people probably won't use it that much.

---------------------------------

That's all we talked about on IRC.

I also noticed most of the headers on all of the 'services' pages aren't consistent. Some are bold, some aren't, etc. Double check that.

Looking good, the old one made me wince. Just one little thing, i have a mac and the navigation thingy doesn't work that well, i have IE5 also. Here's a screen pic for ya! I can't actaully click on the box that pops up. You said you were working on your programming so that's probably it. Oh, and definitely put your search at the top!

it looks good,

but yeah, add some cell-adding and put the search in the top header on the right.... I agree with deker about adding some icons, they make it look more professional....

you can also add some style to the button on the contact form instead of replacing it with an image..... images look better though...

the javascript on the menu is pretty neat, but is it compatible with all browsers?

...maybe make the text (Dickinson County, Iowa) in the header a bit bigger... and use a different format for the date....

my 2 cents

The site looks pretty crappy in Opera as well. None of your nested-cell-padding tricks work. All the tables render incorrectly.

The site is still viewable, and your little fly-out menus work ok, but I don't think you would be happy with some things if you looked at it in Opera. May want to run thru it in the other browsers since it's a pretty high-profile site.

that's the one thing i hate about making site....making it compatible with Netcape, IE, Opera, Browser etc, there should just be one universal browser...

Don't use a fancy scrollbar like you did. Because with a public facility site like that one you can expect people to have some serious problems with the scrolbar. Remember this is a public site so consider your audience carefully.

You should try and found a counter that logs what kind fo browsers your users are using. That would tell you howfar you can go.

Just my 2 cents

His scrollbar isn't that fancy really, i like it, nice and simple. The problem is just the format. www.dynamicdrive.com have a good list of menu thingys which work on all platforms.... I don't really thinks it's an actual platform problem however, it's postioning in the window itself, the browsers are enterpreting them differently, but you could position it in a generic browser spacing if it exists. Hmmm, it's a tuffy. You could do it in flash, but that mean downloading for some ppl. Layers wont work, especially with Netscape. I dunno really???
