I made this website for my father in law. Something simple and small. What do you guys think?

I think it looks really good, simple like you said, but its good that way because then it doesnt take away from the art thats being displayed there. I think everything looks to be really good, nothing really that "I" think I would change.

Nice work and tell you dad I said he has some great work :D

I did those two sites too.. Just something that i'm working on..
Lots of great art too...

It's a bit too simple in my opinion. Yes, as fusiun said, you dont wanna overdo it and distract the viewer from the art, but you can get away with more than what you have.

Also, i dont fancy the black header/footer.. doesnt fit well with the white design, and the text colors dont look that hot against it.

I think you're site is clean, as you stated very simple. But it's pretty easy to navigate and really looks well structured for those visiting. It's not complicated and it really displays the artwork very well, with consistency in design and simplicity.
