its not the same as it has always been though. With windows 95 sr1 and sr2, windows explorer was not made into Internet Explorer unless you upgraded to IE 4.0 or higher. When windows 98 was released, microsoft proclaimed proudly that IE had been heavily intergrated into the operating system functions. |

Hence "microsoft, the evil empire" Very typical. But I guess we are lost without windows. I'm a linux user, I haven't quite masered GIMP yet, so I use windows to do my work in. BUT, where would we be without linux and unix? How would you like your sites having to rebooted often where as on *nix systems there's only a need to reboot when new hardware is installed? LONG LIVE *NIX AND OPEN SOURCE!!! |

thats not really the case. Most good sys admins on a unix/linux server will have all thier hardware installed and configured and will never add new hardware to it unless something dies. Even then, some of it can be hotswapped - harddrives, nic cards etc can be hotswapped. mainly, the only time a sys admin is going to reboot his server is when he upgrades the kernel or some other software package that is initiated on boot. hardware in my linux box - 10BaseT 3c509 3Com NIC 20 gig cheeta drive 512 Mb RAM P2 266 CPU No Video No Sound No mouse No Keyboard No Monitor |

We live in the age of big corporations, not too much we can do about it. I plan on building another comp to run linux (out of curiousity) and would love to switch. But. Big money runs the world, and we the consumers follow along. IBM was corrupt, got split, is still corrupt and so is the spin off, Microsoft (at least thats my opinion). Big banks swallow little banks, and Im sure they are up to no good as well, what can you do. Capitalism breeds greed. Our only as is through choice of how we consume (which is why these discussions are healthy) and where we spend our money, but those choices are narrow, due to the greed of the big guns. For instance I would like to try Linux, but I dont have the time to deal with it until its on another system (then it wont matter if I screw it up), so my choice is Microsoft.
