I just got red hat linux. I'm using it because someone caused my coputer to crash and I lost my win98 product key.
wel....anywayz I'm trying to install an instant messenger for linux and when I try to install it says I need to be a superuser
Does anyone know how I would make myself a superuser?

When you install linux, you have to set up a superuser account. The super user has root access, which means he has the power to do absolutely anything. You probably also set up a normal user account, so that you could play with the system without completely wrecking it. You just need to login as root, and then type the root password. Or I believe you can go to the command line, and type 'SU' and then the root password, and it's the same as logging in as root. My linux is a little rusty though. I really think you would get better help from a linux site, rather than a photoshop one.

1- log in at commnadline with root

bash$ root
rootpassword

2- su root
bash$ su
rootpassword

3- You can be a really smart sysadmin and install sudo. It will allow you to give some root priveleges to regular users.

Linux isnt hard. It just requires an attention span longer than a minute. You have to pay attention to what you are doing alone with be able to comprehend technical documentation.

Give it a shot longer than a few days. You may find it to be just as "easy" as windows.
