Is there any downside (other than the price) to buying a mac now and getting tiger later? when i got win xp i did a clean install instead of upgrading...just wondering if it's the same w/ mac stuff.

i wanna get a pbook 15"...hopefully they don't release a new one anytime soon. :(

I wouldn't buy a Powerbook right now... New ones are on the horizon. But of course these are good PB's to buy because they are like 4th generation, so all the kinks are worked out and they are as stable as possible.

You can do an archive and install when you get panther, which backs up your files and upgrades. Or you can do a clean install. But other than the price, that's really the only draw back.

If the new OS is released within a certain time frame of when you bought your computer they normally let you upgrade for free or for like $17 or something. I think that is what I paid when I got my first G4. But I'd check the time frame to make sure.

When you upgrade your mac there really is no reason to have to do a clean install if you are not having any problems. I never did. I just ran the upgrade and OS X ran like a dream.

yeah, its really not a reinstall more like an upgrade, wait around for a month or so after it comes out and any bugs are discovered and you should be good to go.

as far as the powerbooks hang out and wait for a few weeks, there's rumors of slightly faster ones coming out in late jan/early feb, 1.67 g4s on the top end.
