I am having an issue trying to print a page to my Mac from my PC. Here is my deal. Mac: main machine and has printer hooked up and installed/ also have printer sharing and windows sharing enabled when trying this. PC: Router software set up on PC and both machines are plugged in to router. On PC I go to printers/add new printer/ network printer/ and search. Nothing.... I've tried manually typing the address via http://localhost:6130/printers (or whatever that address is). Also tried typing in \\address and http://Mac_computer_name.... Nothing. The PC cannot find it. Any wizards out there that can figure this out? I'd be greatful Thanks. |

Also, I am assuming that both machines are attached to a router and both machines internet access works fine. Can you ping the mac from the wintendo and can you ping the wintendo from the mac? |
panther 10.3.3 Windows XP Pro... Can ping 127.0.0.1 on both machines.
Pinging 127.0.0.1 only tells me that the computer can talk to itself, hence why it's called localhost. I need to know if the two machines can ping each-other open up a command prompt on the xp machine start>>run type in cmd then type ipconfig /all that will give you the ip address of the winxp box. take that ip address to the mac and ping it from there. Im not sure how to find the ip address on a mac, but i think it's under: apple menu > system properties > tcp/ip take that ip address to the winxp box and ping it. If both are pinging each other, it's most likely not a routing issue. Also, im not really up to speed on mac networking, but if there is something like a workgroup, make sure that the mac and the winxp box are in the same one...that can cause issues as well. Other than that, you might be running into an issue we used to have at the college I did desktop support at. We had WinNT machines throughout a building, the marketing department had macs...so the 3 macs to use network shares, we had to use OS/2 servers...was a real pain in the ass. |
