Hello, I suspect something is going on with my system. I upgraded to XPpro last month and everything was quite impressive. Yesterday all a sudden I'm on the internet an I'm getting all kind of wired pop-up of porn and dating services etc. They are not relative to the sites I'm on. Its pretty obvious that I have some kind of ad spyware crap on my system. God knows how that thing got into my system..... All the popups are from 8ad.com. I went to 8ad.com and tried the "uninstall popup" option but it didn't do jack s*#! and I'm really getting pissed because it slows down my system an my ability to work... I tried to download Ad-ware and run it. It found suspect files and I removed them. But I'm still getting the pop-ups and my system is still noticeably slow. How do I remove this menace 8ad.com garbage from my system If anyone has any prior experience, please advise. Any help is greatly appreciated Regards Fess |

A few weeks ago I optimized a friend's XP system. His son had D/L'ed a bunch of crap, and was getting tons of pop ups as a result. I did a ton of long-neglected standard maintenance on the system, installed AdAware and a ran a couple other utilities to kill that crap. Disabled Windows Messenger, since it is of no use in a one-computer household. Did everything I could, and was pretty successful. One bit of annoying crap remained: AdShooter popups. Even with NO other apps running, including a real spare system tray, and using Mozilla as the browser, AdShooter would pop up windows with ads. Upper left corner of the pop up windows showed the stylized "E" logo indicating Explorer. Imagine me—a DIE HARD MAC_FREAK—smoothing out a seriously tainted XP system. I nailed all the crap except for AdShooter. They spelled out a text link to learn how to get rid of the pop ups. I went to their website, and they offer a utility to get rid of it from your system. I D/L'ed it, ran it but the AdShooter pop ups continue. I explored that effin' machine for an entire week. Still, those bastids keep shooting me ads about buying something to get rid of ads.................»ad infintum. Advice on this, please? |

Hello everyone, Thanks for all your advice. I downloaded Spybot, ran it. If found a bunch of suspect files and removed them. My problem now....... I don't see any popups which is good. But when I go to google to do a search, I'll type in PhotoshopCS and hit enter, google would do the search and then a new window opens with some other search engine: http://search-company.com/search.php?qq=photoshopcs&pin=22776 I typed in "search-company.com pop up" and got this from google: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html#byteverify I don't know what the hell is going on here. It seems impossible to get ride of this adware crap.... Has anyone ever heard of CWShredder? Regards Fess |
