This is what I have planned for my bro's system: Athlon XP 2200 (or 2400 possibly) 512MB DDR RAM 80 GB 7200 RPM H/D Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 PCI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB DDR Low Profile AGP 8X DVI/ CRT/TVO Possibly a 17" monitor. And he wants a DVD-RW. There will also be a scanner/printer combo hooked up to it, and a digital camera on occasion. Is a 400w power supply good enough or should I go a little higher? |

400w is plenty. If you have loads of drives, hd's etc. then go with a higher watt one.

Cool. I figured I'd play it on the safe side. I mean I only have a 900Mhz with 512, but have 2 hard drives (80/45), an internal 100MB Zip, a CD-RW and a 64MB card. My PSU is only 300w and it's been running without a problem for 2 years or so, and that's nearly 24/7. He's only gonna have 1 h/d and possibly a DVD-RW. But with the larger CPU and all, i thought I'd bump it up a bit. |

400W is plenty. Plenty. Just make sure it's a good quality PSU, since a bad one will lead to oodles of problems. Go with Enermax, Antec, PC Power and Cooling, Allied, Sparkle, and Vantec. |
