Best GeForce card for gaming?

I'd rather not buy a computer just yet...This one is quite nice, it is great actually. The only downside to it is the lack of the AGP slots.

Searching through the net, I found out that the GeForce FX 5950 takes up 1 AGP slot and 1 PCI slot. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=307297&pfp=BROWSE

Not a problem if you can afford to lose a pci slot. If it's a newer board you probably have at least mobo sound, and mabye a mobo nic card as well. So that shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry to bug you all with questions, fortunately I'm learning more and more about graphic cards. However, specifically with GeForce cards...

Yes. GeForceFX 5900, or whatever is the current, would be what you want IF you wanted the best gaming card from nVidia's line. Now with nVidia the company that builds the card using nVidia chips you will have to look into. Asus (I have an old Asus GeForce 2 that is still kicking like mad.) but others have told me they like MSI and Gainward cards.

The only bonus of getting an nVidia card over an ATI card at the high end (imo) is driver support. nVidia has great driver support for just most major *nix OS's. But if you are on windows only, you might look into getting an ATI 9800 pro or xt card. About the same cost.

*and maybe search around for frame rates for your favorite game(s) and see what other people have experienced with cards. Radeon 9800xt is supposed to be the best out there.

in the most part the fx will beat the geforce 4 card, but some of the lower fx cards like 5200, 5600 non ultra are worse than some of the higher end geforce 4 card. right now the 5950 Ultra is the best nvidia has out. Although i would recommend 9800 pro or xt, 9600 xt, or 9700 pro. Ati cards do much better with direct x 9, and games will soon all be going in that path. In the long run those ati cards will be much better than a 5950 Ultra.
