Looks like I got a virus. I can't log onto windows XP Pro either because some winlogon or svchost exe has a memory access violation where the memory cannot be "read" or "written". When I could log on it would close programs at random, in an attempt I think to get my ip adress. A couple times I got the error that my license code couldn't be found and therefore windows wouldn't start, so I know this thing was looking for my license, my IP and something else. Anybody know what this thing is? EDIT: This message was written on another computer. I can only get into safe mode on mine where I'm running Norton AntiVirus Corporate right now. As soon as I have $1200 I'm getting an iBook. |

Yeah, thats the ticket. Just switch. *edits back in original comment* Sounds like a winlogon exploit. Do you have all the updates installed? I'd suggest a firewall too if you're not running one, but you should run one anyway. |

Haven't heard of that one yet... almost sounds like you were being hacked rather than hit with a virus. I really don't know though. You could always try the old format and reinstall... and then get some anti-virus and firewall stuff installed as soon as you get it back up and running.

Well I'm behind a router and that's firewalled. As soon as this virus scan is done I'll check for updates.
