PC ram and apple Ram are exactly the same... dont know what brand apple works with, but ram is good if it works. brand really doesnt matter, unless you want a warrenty or something along those lines. personally i think the CRT apple monitors are not as good as their lcd, which are amazing. but yeah if you dont want to fork over 6000 bucks for a screen and a the computer get a powerbook. i work with an imac (at school) and personally i dont like it.. something about a giant pimple on my desk doesnt do it for me. it works fine and everything but i hate its look. and the powerbook is portable which is always fun.

Direct quote from a friend of mine:
"I've been fighting with my computer for months now trying to find out what was causing my computer to do strange ****. Corrupted files, programs crashing, entire operating systems crashing and bad stuff in general. I've reinstalled my OSes about 3 times each only to have them seemingly degrade after 3-4 weeks. Well I found the problem!!!

256MB of DDR memory"

Ram that is cheap can cause havoc. I would stick with trusted names.

Yes, the 12" is nice. Though it doesn't have FireWire 800, L3 Cache, the lighted keyboard, etc. Still a good deal for $1800. And a whole lot of computer in that tiny package.

I wouldn't use an LCD for graphics work as colors don't match up on screen nearly as well as with a CRT. Apple's super expensive LCDs probably come close, but a halfway decent CRT is better than the most expensive LCD's color matching ability.

If I were you, I'd buy a $700-$800 22" Mitsubishi DP2060u or an NEC FP1375x. Both are high quality large CRTs that smoke LCD image quality.

I run a NEC FP1370 22" through BNC connectors, which supposedly is the best for colors on a CRT. Neither the DP2060u or FP1375x have BNC connectors on the back, but its not exactly necessary for image quality. Only if you want to be a true graphic geek (like me). Plain old VGA d-sub connectors should suffice.

I don't really need firewire.. all my stuff is USB, like my camera or whatever.. although if I bought a mac I'd soo need an ipod!
but surely the 12" has some light source, like my thinkpad has a light on it just fiberoptic under the kb :(

Like mr b was saying, the cathode ray tubes are closer to print colour and graphics. the 17' iMac display i'm using is extremely clear however, but print wise, i think the gamma is wrong. the screen is a bit too bright i think. LCDs are so expensive because when you make them, you have to make two of them and one of them is a dud, you use the other one. I'd either go to eBay and get two CRTs or get a laptop/my iMac! I wouldn't buy the Apple screens on its own.

No, the 12" has no keyboard lighting at all. And everyone needs firewire!
