I'm not much into this specific style. Honestly, I've always felt that lyrics ought to be sung the without all too many embellishments, as I think for the most part that when you're going to bother having a band that sings lyrics, then well, they should mean enough on their own without the, y'know, screaming.

I understand that this is a facet of the performances as well as the overall genre of the various flavors of hardcore, as this one sounds to me to be some kind of Emo-Hardcore. I know that Norma Jean has a somewhat similar sound, and every single one of my friends LOVES them, but I've just never gotten into them.

I think it's for the above stated reason.

That being said, I like the band, but the vocals are a bit off-putting.

Bear in mind, I'm a crotchitty old man when it comes to music.

As for the thing I posted, the other song, specifically the one entitled 'Cliche Hoe Rap' is actually pretty well written.

The Rochester one is a little...

odd.

And there's several rappers in town that I know personally who would put him to shame at rhyming.

Although, his R & B-ish stuff is pretty good (see above). This is due in large part to the fact that I friggin LOVE the Roots, and I just got the John Legend CD.

Yeah, it is kind of funny how hardcore has always been about the lyrics, really. You sort of develop an ear for it, though. The more you listen to a band, the more you can understand what they are saying. I like hardcore because of the intense emotion in it, and how the music typically fits the music to the point.

I always tend to appreciate rap that isn't gangsta rap. The lyrics for 50 Cent, Ludacris, and whoever else is out there making "music" today are usually very repetitive, and just.. badly written lyrics. Stuff like what you posted is good, i can recognize it is good, but like i said i don't like the genre all too much. In the same way, some hardcore bands can have similar lyrics to gangsta rap. Some of it is the white man's gangsta rap 8), you just have to know which bands to avoid (usually anything mainstream).

At any rate, here are the lyrics to that song:

--- ---
A Toast to the Happy Couple

Raise your wineskins; drop the stopper to the floor.
Tonight let us drown in red wine,
And mix our breath with its bouquet,
That sits so serenely on your gown.
(We are enamored with you,
We love what you’ve done to your hair)
The uniform of a bride does well to hide the stains on your dress.
Stiletto heals your brokenness.
Just keep in mind, one step at a time
Lest you trip on its tapered edge.
You are the shards of our broken porcelain princesses,
Grand in their streaming tresses,
Ruined in the words of a stolen vow laid like wilted flowers on their chests.
And you repeat that vow.
Don’t repeat it.
I’d call you Broken Record but you never skip a beat.
So I’ll name you Windshear and call you vapor,
I’ll name you by that which strips you bear.
And with such a name, what will you tell Him?
That you were satisfied?
And indeed you must be satisfied so congratulations.
Best wishes to the Bride and Groom.
