Anyone know how I can limit the amount of pop ups I get using Windows XP? I was using Win 2000 for awhile and I hardly ever got any. Now that I've switched my OS I get tons of pop ups.

Don't recommend I switch to a Mac. I have a PC and I'm sticking with it. ;)

Any PC people out there know of any good tips?

Do you mean the messenger pop up (a message similar to a junk mail but who apper rigth in front of you in a window message box even when you are not using you broswer) ?

Yes there is a simple trick to get rid of this one.... by the way it has no lionk with msn...

The problem come fon a function inside window use for sending messages over a network, but most network software (like novel) use their own...

Lucky for you you can close this services on you PC with no problems (no one use it anyway)

-Control Panel (classic view)
-Adminastritive tools
-Services
-Select Menssenger (double click)

In the general tab,
Start up type : Disable
Service status : Stop
-Ok
You may get a message warning you than you may stop some functions... but I never had any problems (no one I know does)

I mean the ones that just pop up when I open my browser. When I open Internet Explorer I get no less than 2 pop ups. Then after visiting a few sites say for example team photoshop I'll have about 6 or 7 pop ups minimized.

I just upgraded my computer and ever since I put the new OS on it I've had lots of pop ups. I don't have Gator, KaZaA or any of that...

Have you had a good experience with this? I've downloaded software like this before and it does strange things to the computer.

Try adding Google's search bar to IE, it has a pop-up blocker. Or you could use something like http://www.avantbrowser.com/ which uses the IE rendering engine, but adds some decent features (including pop-up blocker).

Or you could just use a decent browser in the first place like Firebird, Mozilla, or Opera.

I think I'm going to give avantbrowser a try.
