I know that this is a redundant question and I apologize because I know that its been asked about 1200 times already. But I'm getting really frustrated with my web hosting and would really appreciate it if anyone had a good free host that has FTP, no banners or pop-ups, and allows hotlinking. I've tried t35 but even though it says no pop-ups, t35 inserts code into each of your pages so that there is a pop-up. Also, I'm not sure if its t35 or the FTP software I have but there were some glitches in uploading images. (Try http://trhaynes.t35.com/gallery.html and look at the title image - then click the first image and take a look at that one).

Can anyone help? Even if the free host doesn't have all of the features that I want, if its good then Id like to hear about it. I dont have time to go to the resources forum, which is outdated and not all of the things are at all good.

You could at least post your question in the correct forum. And like you said, this has been asked a million times before, so why don't you just look at one of those threads? Or you could always pay $5 a month to get real hosting and solve all your problems...

He doesn't "have time" to bother looking at the resources section. He wants us to waste our time doing it for him.

Sorry for seeming to be an ass guys but the resources forum doesn't work very well for good web hosting. Every single free host in the book is linked to from that thread, and half of the links don't work, or the site doesn't allow free hosting anymore, or they give you free hosting but they want 5 banners on each page and 20 popups. I'm sorry for pissing you guys off but it would help if the resources forum had a "quality free hosting" portion that was up-to-date. Sound good?

Thanks strider, I'll try brinkster. Or maybe I'll stick with t35. Thanks for your help and sorry once more.

If you want "free" you're going to have banners and other downsides. I don't know why you people seem to think that someone owes you free hosting... Hosting is ridiculously cheap for a basic plan.

And if you are unsatisfied with the quality of the resources forum, do something about it yourself instead of just bitching about it. Make a list of the dead links, and make a list of the high-quality, totally free hosts with no banners, no pop-ups, no framesets, no javascript banner things, unlimited bandwidth, and unlimited storage, then I'll update the thread. Shouldn't take you very long, I'm sure it's a pretty damn short list.

I rated the sites you have in the resources forum since it looks to me the last time they were updated was 2002. Please give me at least a little credit as it took 30 or 45 minutes. Did not look for any new ones but there are four here that look like they are better than any other ones. The reason I started this thread because I was wondering if anyone had done this earlier and perhaps posted it on a different forum or site or not posted it at all. I don't mind doing the work, but doing the same work someone else has done is just silly, wouldn't you agree?

There you go:

FREE WEB HOSTS - PROS AND CONS:

http://hosting.sidez.net - Your CD drive comes out as a cupholder and I don't see any free hosting.

https://www.doteasy.com - Decent free hosting I guess, but you have to buy a domain at which to host it.

http://www.liquid2k.com - Looks decent, but if you have a free e-mail account (hotmail.com, etc.), you can't sign up.

http://www.brinkster.com - Good web hosting.

http://www.free-php-hosting.com - And you thought that all of these links here were confusing. Click to see what I mean.

http://www.boomspeed.com - The site looks like it was made by my baby brother and there are no free accounts to sign up for.

http://www.hypermart.net - You have to hunt around for it, but they offer free accounts if you want banner ads on your site.

http://www.homestead.com - Looks to me like you can try it for free, but to actually keep an account, you have to pay.

http://www.freeserve.co.uk - Its probably there, but I didn't have the patience to find any free hosting on this site.

http://www.deluxnetwork.com - Lots of dead links, just like this page (found fateback.com worked for me though - claims FTP and no banners).

http://www.portland.co.uk - For portland, you must have or buy a domain name to take advantage of their free web hosting.

http://coolfreepages.com - Looks to be one of the best free web hosts.

http://www.aspfreeserver.com - "free subdomain hosting is down at the moment"

http://www.digitalrice.com - I don't see any free hosting here. Just a forum with an offer for paid hosting.

http://www.spaceports.com - I don't see that they offer free hosting but maybe they do.

http://virtue.nu - Looks pretty decent - says it offers FTP hosting.

http://www.hostu4free.com - Link doesn't work.

http://www.virtualave.net - Directs you to hypermart.com, which offers free hosting in exchange for ads on your site.

http://www.sphosting.com - Looks alright to me.

http://www.port5.com - I guess the hosting is decent but you'd think that they'd make their site a little prettier.

http://www.eccentrix.com - Looks pretty good actually.

http://www.freecoolpages.com - What a site (not really - nothing there).
http://www.imahosting.com - Has some cool pank tubes but no free site hosting that I could find.

http://www.yoursighost.com - Now a cheap, free casino-ad'ed internet portal.

http://www.fateback.com - Found this from deluxnetwork.com, too. It claims no banners or pop-ups and FTP so I signed up.

http://www.netfirms.com - Got to have or buy a domain

http://www.t35.com:8080 - Despite promising no pop-ups, t35 still adds a line of code to ensure that your visitors recieve a pop-up surprise when they enter. The FTP support is major a plus, though.

CONCLUSION: It seems to me that there are four free web hosting sites worth signing up for and they are. There might be some things that I overlooked, and in that case, please contact me so that they can be fixed. The top four are, in no particular order:

t35.com - http://www.t35.com

brinkster - http://www.brinkster.com

coolfreepages - http://coolfreepages.com

fateback.com - http://www.fateback.com
