what is a good web host

i need some links to some good webhosts please

Yeah lots of design sites use media temple. i have used dreamhost for a long time. they only have email tech support though. www.hostradius.com is what I use for about 40 of my sites though. haven't had any problems, and they are very affordable. several people here on the forum use them.

well if you arent so lucky as i am and get free hosting for your sites, i would defiantly recommend media temple. Very reliable and so many design sites are hosted by them. They are a bit pricey but if that isnt really a factor its worth it.

my 2 cents: If you are building basic site(s) and dont require a lot of server side processing, then go for a cheaper host (5-10$ a month). If you are relying on the Database and Server scripting engines to be smooth, and absolutely no downtime, then you should pay the extra amount. Media Temple IMO (not from using them, but from this forum) seems very good. Pank could probably give you some stats on the uptime and all that for MT....

I just bum off my friend's webhost (envision7) because it came with the whole game server package. =]

thanks guys, i appreciate it, i actually ended up having my aunt go through netfirms (i made the website, its my first one http://www.aphotostale.netfirms.com) she will have the full domain after her old site transfers over.


but i do have another question, whats a goof way to do FTP? i downloaded ws_ftp LE and it seemed to work okay, i was gonna go with cuteftp but i head it had spyware :(
