Is this site on a Unix machine? Is that something that is set by the admins when they configure the server?

because "forum" is a directory is is case sensitive.

Directories and file names are case sensitive but domains aren't.
You can type a domain in any way.. eg. TeamPhotoshop.com will still go to teamphotoshop.com(teamPhotoshop.COM)

Yeah, must be a UNIX thing. IIS doesn't care.

That is the case =) Files, Directories, etc all are case sensitive on a unix or linux machine.
