Dear designers, photographers and all sorts of creative souls. Wouldn't you think that it is about time that we can be creative on a platform other than Mac or PC. Adobe and Macromedia people claim that there would not be enough interest from Linux users to use their products on this platform. But lots of PC and Mac users are willing to switch to Linux. But their favourite creative tools are not available for Linux (yet). And that's why they are held back to switch to this economic and stable OS. People speak up so we can move to Linux by using decent design tools which we are used to. Adobe and Macromedia guys, we bet you have some great marketing campaigns up your sleeve to get people to buy your stuff for the Linux platform. I wouldn't use Linux... And don't know anyone who does or would. I would rather them spend the time making the current versions of their software better, rather than porting it to yet another platform. Maybe I should start a petition about it.

The most logical reason why they don't have one for Linux is because, linux is mainly used for server management/programming purposes. It was never developed to be a GUI operating system. (correct me if I'm wrong) |

I'm with sidez on this one, I think Linux and the open sores movement (oops! :D) was, and is, more for IT geeks than creative geeks like myself. Also, I'm sure a main reason that there isn't much development for creativite apps for Linux is more about signed contracts with the big guys than a personal beef against the Linux folks. Adobe and Macromedia make millions (billions?) off of their products. Why would they spend money to develop *giving* it away? Far too proprietory (greedy) for that. good idea with the petition and all, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. |

I don't think they're wanting for them to make dreamweaver and photoshop opensource... just make a version that will work on linux. I don't see adobe every going there... all of its customers are creative types, which usually stay away from complex computers. that's why most use the macintosh... and then if you are "hardcore" enough to use linux, why do you need dreamweaver? you should be "hardcore" enough to use emacs instead or something. |

You can use stuff like this: http://www.winehq.com/ Which runs most windows applications in Linux. and also winX which runs Direct X, so if you are a gamer you can run windows games on linux. As far as running photoshop and macromedia on linux I am not 100% sure whether you can do that or not. here there list a database of applications that can run under Linux using wine: http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php This is the graphics program section---> http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php?catId=19 But like other posted above, I dont think it is as easy to isntall and run the applications as you can witha mac or windows machine. You have to do some tricks, but there is a lot of support from people that do get them running on their machines, so I guess if you want a challenge, then you can start here. |

Yup.... The best anybody will get graphically out of linux is to use a windows emulator or use GIMP. As for web design products, theres some html editors for linux, but don't expect a dreamweaver for it, like ever. ![]() |
