ooh, i'm from were here. i think i'm automatically supposed to make fun of you. something about member charters. ;) what does it matter if you use flash for rollovers vs. html? it's not like flash is some amazingly mystical program that should only be opened when there's no other alternative. bollocks. the flash 5 plugin is in like 99% of players. most users don't even know the plugin is active, since the majority of people online do not make graphics. flash is just a tool, like photoshop, illustrator, anything else. |

I stopped looking for hockey after 4 minutes. Mainly because their site doesn't function very well at all in Opera. The schedule page was almost 400k! And I'm not going to get into another Flash argument. In my experience, people that really enjoy Flash also really don't care about what their sites look like to anyone but themselves. And they certainly don't care about people using PDAs, text readers, people that like to navigate with the keyboard, people that like to print things, people that like to copy/paste, people that like to be able to make the text on a site bigger because they can't see very well, and on and on and on. I know there are workarounds for a lot of that stuff, but i've only seen like 2 sites that actually do any of it. |

400k for a schedule page is obscene. they should pay their designers to take some courses in useability issues. my personal stuff,i could care whether anyone looks at it at all or not. ( course i haven't updated my site in 6 months and the old version was just a boredom experiment, not even a preloader attached. there's quite a few people looking at issues like palm pilots, text readers, etc. using dynamic text, it's very easy to copy/ paste flash sites. it's just that there are so many different guidelines to what *should* be a proper site that it's incredibly overwhelming to design for everyone. i will agree this discussion is abit useless since alot of it does fall to personal tastes. |
