How many of you ppl work as freelance designers and how many of you work on "real" web design companies?
what should you be prepared for if you go to a company interview?

Thanks for any replies

I've never worked for a web design company, but i've run one. And I guess you could say I do freelance now. Whatever the hell that means.

I interviewed at a "real" web design company once upon a time when I was about 18, and I would say the most important thing is to know what you're talking about (i did), and have a good portfolio (I didn't). I had only done like 2 sites, and they said they like to see people that have done about 10 just for their entry level position.

And if I was to hire someone to help me with web design, I would want to see professional sites. Not sites for your buddies CS clan or a fan club for some super model. And I would want you to be able to code HTML by hand and not rely on Dreamweaver... and i would ask you questions about actually designing sites and not just the general "where do you see yourself in 5 years" questions. But that could be just me.

If I was hiring a web designer, I'd ask them if they liked gladiator movies...

Oh, but really, I agree with Dek: the portfolio will make or break you.

The portfolio is the most important point...

They way you place your porojetct can also have an effect...

Place the best project first, first impression is the key...
Place your favoritte project last... since there is more chance they will remember it...
Remeber, quality over quantity, dont palce all of your college project there.... only place the best!
Add spect sheet for project, wath was asked and in wich condition. Be prepared to answer question about them...

One last thing... Remeber than the software is not the only thing... There is no creativity filter in Photoshop and no Creativity Javascrip in Dreamweawer!

I work for a production company. Portfolio work is absolutely necessary. If you have no working experience, you will need a large portfolio of work to show off.

you're a good christian

I work in one of the largest graphic design companies in ireland during the summer (i'm doing my last year of school right now) and it is a requirement to have at least 3 years work experience and for you to include in a nicely layed out fashion, some of your best pieces of art....oh yeah, you need a BA degree in Graphic Design or Fine Art.
