..it makes me mad..

..when you try hard as hell to develope as a designer, and trying not to resort to filters and cheap tasteless solutions for layouts and other designs.. And then you realize that the ppl who you design for (everyone else, the client and their clients) haven't got a clue of what looks classy and what looks crap.

You work on a layout to make it real stylish and all, perfect alignment and simplistic ideas to make the message clear.. And that's when the client starts rubbing his beard and asks for something more..."cool looking"; "it's a good start, Pekka, but I'd love to see some of that stuff you're good at..can't you throw in some effects here, and maybe animate the background with cars and birds? I want a hugeass lensflare in the header" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

It's really depressing realizing that nobody values the same things as you do. Why did I even bother learning everything?

I agree. It seems many clients just hire you to press buttons for them. Not to actually have your professional advice on how to make their site attractive.

My clients have always liked my work....i dont mean for that to be an arrogant comment. I set out what i can and will do for them under their overall needs. I've been lucky in the fact that i've always been abe to experiment and the client has always loved what i've produced.

Take your "full creative license" and put it up against a client's checkbook, and the client will win every time!!!

Recently, I designed a really, really expensive lightbox ad campaign for a mall, and the guy just wants it to "blend in."

uhhh, you just spent 18 grand to have your advertising "blend in."?!

I asked him this: "have you ever seen a sky blue billboard?"

he said no, but didn't get the point at all.

yeah, cyb, of course not every client is like that.
Depends of what the client is, what they do. I'm not talking about the "nice" clients, the ones that give you free hands, because they understand something about what looks good and what doesn't. Still, they always come along from time to time, these people with no sense of style. They're the ones that piss me off. ;)

lol poor pekka :( I haven't had that problem, last web site I did, the owner was like its your descression make it better!

I have no clients! But I love people who say, "You suck, you can't make those 3D trendy crap" although I'm too poor to afford a 3D program and more or less don't want to.

I don't have any clients as well *sigh*

I'll be doing a site for the rock festival my school organises every year (around 2500 visitors). I'm head of layout so I'll be designing t-shirts, website, stickers, flyers, posters, tickets. A lot :D And guess what I get for it, nothing :D Well yea endless fame mayby but I'm not counting on that.
